先日、12チームの代表全員を対象としたシーズン後のアンケートが行われ、今シーズンのベストドライバーにはドライバー選手権3連覇を達成したベッテルを差し置いて、アロンソが圧倒的支持を受けて選出された。

本作はアクションゲームシリーズ「トゥームレイダー」の最新作となる。主人公はこれまで同様ララ・クロフトだが、2丁拳銃を武器にどんなピンチにも動じないタフな冒険家、というこれまでの作品のイメージとは異なり、今作のララはピンチに悲鳴を上げ、弱音を吐き、悪態をつくといった“弱々しさ”が強調されている。なぜならば、本作はララ・クロフトの“最初の冒険”であり、冒険者となる最初の一歩だからだ。
今回の冒険で、ララ・クロフトはタフな冒険家としての本能を目ざめさせていくこととなる。これまで弊誌では「トゥームレイダー」の情報を何度か取り上げているが、今回改めて「トゥームレイダー」の序盤の展開を最新スクリーンショットと共に紹介していきたい。

今作でのララ・クロフトは21歳。最近大学を卒業したばかりの優秀な考古学者だ。彼女はある遺跡の調査に向かうため、ララの父親と古くからの友人であった「コンラッド・ロス」が船長を務める「エンデュランス号」で、人生初の冒険に出発する。親友の「サム」など仲間との航海は順調かと思えたのだが、ある日、船はすさまじい嵐に巻き込まれる。船はメリメリと音を立て裂け、海に投げ出されたララは、謎の島の海岸に流れ着く。
ララが流れ着いた島には鳥居や仏像、高くそびえる塔など、どこかオリエンタルな雰囲気をもった建造物がある。ララは同じように仲間が漂着していないか探索を開始する。最初ララはこの島が、歴史の狭間で朽ち果てた無人島かと思っていたが、様々な罠がはりめぐらされている事を知る。そして以前漂着していた人々が凶暴な先住者「スカベンジャー」となって住みついていることを発見するのだ。
また、この島には多くの野生生物も生息しており、本能のままにララに襲いかかってくる。ララはこれらの生物と戦い、さらには生きるための狩りも行なっていく。野生生物や木の実、野草などは狩猟、採集することで食糧にもなる。島にあるあらゆるものを活用しなければ生き抜くことはできない。ララはサバイバルの術を学んでいく。そしてララは他の人間との戦いまでも経験する。相手を殺さなければ自分が殺されてしまうという極限状態に、ララの中で眠っていた“本能”が目覚め始める……。
ゲームスタート時、ララは粗末な弓だけを持っている。島に残された様々なアイテムを駆使し、さらに武器をアップグレードすることで使用用途を広げることができる。武器は戦闘だけでなく、罠の解除などに利用できる。ララは、はりめぐらされた罠を避け、襲いくる野生生物やスカベンジャーと戦い、この島から脱出する手掛かりを探していく。
島はいくつかのエリアに分かれており、それぞれのエリアには「ベースキャンプ」と呼ばれる拠点が存在する。「ベースキャンプ」ではララ自身のスキルをアップさせたり、武器や道具をアップグレードしたりすることができる。1度訪れた拠点は自由に行き来することができる。新たな道具を手に入れたり、武器や道具をアップグレードすることで、新たなルートがひらけることもある。
冒険を重ねるうちに、ララはスカベンジャーという先住者は実は人種も年齢もバラバラな集団であることを知る。しかし彼等は集団として組織的な動きをしている。彼等の正体と目的も冒険の大きな謎となる。そしてエンデュランス号に乗っていた仲間達の安否も気になるところだ。謎だらけの島で、ララはどんなドラマを繰り広げ、どう成長していくのだろうか。
